Frequently Asked Questions

how do i get started?

I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to get to know each other better and see if we might be a good fit. Email is the preferred way to reach me. I believe you should listen to your intuition and trust your gut when it comes to choosing a provider to work with.

how do i know if we will be a good fit?

Finding the right therapist can be a bit of trial and error. In general, I may be a good fit for you if you are looking for an anxiety or OCD specialist, if you want an authentic person to work with, if you are open to insight and honest feedback, and you are ready to learn some new coping skills and work on them in between sessions. I also have a personal mindfulness practice and some people seek me out because they are interested in starting their own mindfulness journey. I enjoy working with open-minded people who feel ready and motivated to understand themselves better.

Are you doing in office sessions right now?

I provide in office sessions several days a week. My office is located centrally in the Mission Valley area of San Diego, has gender neutral restrooms, and is wheelchair accessible. I will continue to offer Telehealth sessions to those all over California who desire it.

what issues do you treat?

A lot of my clients are dealing with various forms of anxiety; big, small, and everything in between. They don’t always call it anxiety but that’s usually the common theme. Stress, worry, a restless mind, over-thinking, over-working, procrastination, or difficulty letting go and relaxing. In some people, anxiety can show up as irritability, self-doubt, and avoidance. Others battle OCD symptoms of recurring intrusive thoughts and compulsive mental or physical behaviors. Some people seek me out because a big life change has rocked their world - divorce, a painful break up, grief, infidelity, or a personal crisis. I am capable of holding a lot of pain for people and I can be a safe anchor to address life trauma.

How do you treat OCD?

I start with a very detailed assessment process which includes the Y-BOCS to fully uncover the OCD symptoms and help bring to light all the sneaky ways OCD has wormed it’s way into your life. I then offer you a choice between Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) treatment or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) or a combined approach of the two. Not every person is ready to face OCD head on with weekly exposures. I do not rush people through the treatment process. We become allies together to fight back against OCD so you can find your path to OCD recovery.

Do you treat substance use?

Many people self-medicate from mental health issues by using substances. A large focus of my work has been helping people with mental health and substance use disorders. I support those who feel ready to reduce their usage, or use in a way that supports a reduction of harm. I also support relapse prevention for those seeking to sustain their sobriety. If you have a loved one who is battling addiction, we focus on addressing your needs, strengthening boundaries, improving self-care, and releasing responsibility for the person in their addiction.

Therapy for Therapists

I understand the unique needs of serving therapists as clients and I deeply enjoy this work. I strive to provide a safe place where you can take your therapist hat off and feel free to be your most raw, messy, and vulnerable self so your needs can finally come first.

What are your values?

Our values show us what is meaningful and important in our lives. My practice is aligned with social justice, Black Lives Matter, LGBTQIA+, body positivity, antiracism, health at every size, mindfulness, and sex positivity. I reserve several sliding-scale fee slots in my practice for individuals that identify as having low-income. I welcome my clients to incorporate their unique identities, cultures, values, and spirituality, into their sessions. I deeply enjoy helping people reduce body shame and begin to fight back against societal messages that constantly tell us these bodies of ours are not good enough.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.  You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises
